Heat & Extreme Weather Policy

Your health and safety are always our priority. During periods of extreme heat, heat health alerts, or elevated fire danger, we adjust our training approach to protect our members, trainers, and community.

1. When This Policy Applies
This policy is activated when:
  • A Heat Health Alert is issued for Melbourne / our local area
  • Temperatures are forecast to be ≥35°C, or
  • Extreme / Catastrophic fire danger ratings are declared, or
  • Conditions inside or outside the studio pose an elevated heat or smoke risk

2. Training Modifications During Heat Events
When this policy is active, sessions may be modified in the following ways:

Training Adjustments
  • Reduced session intensity and volume
  • Longer rest periods between exercises
  • Emphasis on strength, mobility, controlled movement, and technique
  • Removal or reduction of high-intensity metabolic finishers
  • Optional substitutions provided for anyone feeling heat-affected

Environmental Controls
  • Air conditioning will be in use, with fans positioned to support airflow and cooling throughout the studio.
  • Doors/windows adjusted for ventilation where safe
  • Cold water access encouraged before, during, and after sessions

3. Session Cancellations or Closures
Sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled if:
  • Indoor conditions become unsafe despite modifications
  • Smoke, power outages, or fire proximity pose a risk
  • Emergency authorities advise limiting physical activity
Any cancelled sessions will be credited or rescheduled.

4. Member Responsibilities During Extreme Heat
To help us keep everyone safe, we ask members to:
  • Arrive well-hydrated
  • Wear light, breathable clothing
  • Inform trainers immediately if feeling dizzy, nauseous, unwell, or unusually fatigued
  • Respect modified sessions — heat days are not performance days
We actively encourage members to listen to their body and choose rest when needed.

5. At-Risk Groups
Extra care is taken for:
  • Adults over 60
  • Members managing menopause or hormonal changes
  • Anyone with cardiovascular conditions, asthma, or heat sensitivity
  • Anyone returning after illness or fatigue
Individual modifications will always be offered.

6. Communication & Updates
  • Updates will be shared via email, SMS and social media
  • Official information will always reference VicEmergency, BoM, or Victorian Health
  • Trainers are briefed daily during heat events

7. Our Commitment:
At Sentience Personal Training, we believe:
Consistency, safety, and care build long-term strength — not pushing through unsafe conditions.
Training smart during heat is part of building a sustainable, healthy lifestyle.
