The Story of Sentience Personal Training

At Sentience Personal Training we know that everyone wants to be healthy and happy.

Getting into their 40’s, many people find their bodies change, and don’t feel comfortable any more. They want to get more exercise and learn to eat more healthily, but they’re confused with all the information they find.

They don’t want to go to the gym and be rushed by personal trainers who push them too fast, too soon and ignore their needs. They don’t want to follow another extreme diet that fails a few weeks in. So they feel frustrated and unhappy that they don’t feel comfortable in their body and lack the energy they want to be able to do the things they love.

We believe you can achieve a healthy lifestyle and still enjoy life.  You don’t have to give everything up to lose weight and be healthy. And you should be able to enjoy working out and still see great results (don’t have to kill yourself at each session).

Your daily routines are what can help you look and feel healthy. Rather than exercising every day to lose weight or gain strengths, your health comes from what you do every day. Exercising, sleeping well, listening to your body, being aware of what and how you’re eating, taking care of yourself all means you can concentrate on things that are important to you (rather then how you look and feel).

Hi, I'm Snezana. My family is from Macedonia. My mother grew up on a farm where you lived off the land, ate when you were hungry and exercise was something that you did each day as part of your tasks. You ate and moved to create a body that could look after the family, allow you to work and do what you needed to do. And while I was born in Australia, this was still the beliefs my mother passed on to me.

In Australia, my parents didn’t believe in girls being active. So I had to fight to train as a gymnast. I hid my physical abilities for a long time. But then I saw people exercising at the gym, joined them and loved it. I studied Physical Education at University and then became a secondary school teacher.

What I saw when I first became a Personal Trainer was that people didn’t see their body as something to help them achieve what they wanted every day. They had become confused about the fundamentals of exercise and health.
By teaching people about their body and health I could help them see the world differently. They could make new choices and redefine who they were. They didn’t need to be stuck doing something. Educating them as well as showing them what exercises to do helped give them  confidence, and allowed them to ask the right questions, having a desire to change themselves for the better and make a difference to them and those around them.

Since 2008 we’ve helped thousands of people improve their health. I’ve put together a team of personal trainers who put your needs first. Who genuinely care about other people and want to contribute and help you achieve what will make you happy. They’re not on the latest fad or trend. They work with you, at your pace to help you achieve your goals.
The word ‘sentience’ means to have awareness, which is at the core of the Sentience Personal Training philosophy for health and wellbeing.

Dannielle's Story
"Leading up to Oxfam 100km walk last year (in 2017), I was nervous about being able to finish the walk.  Since completing Oxfam in 2015 I’d put on about 10kg and lost a lot of fitness after hurting my knee and not being able to play netball or run.

HIIT workouts
I tried in the few months leading up to the walk, to get back into running but every time I did I found an excuse to not keep going. Surprisingly I finished the Oxfam walk last year in around 29 hours. I was sore. Every muscle in my body hurt, my feet and ankles were so swollen, it was over a week until I could wear shoes again.
My fitness and eating continued along the same after this, I felt uncomfortable going out with friends, to events, even going to work was challenging because I wasn’t comfortable in my uniform.

Then in July my bridesmaid dress for my sister’s wedding in November arrived, I tried it on and instantly hated how I looked and knew something had to change. I started walking my dog for at least 5km a day, I would get up at 5 am to get a walk done before work, I changed what I was eating, I started eating more vegetables and less stuff out of a jar or quick meals, I started to feel so much better!  Don’t get me wrong, it was hard to stop eating all the treats and my go to snacks that I was having, but I noticed results almost instantly so that helped me keep on track.

Then I joined Sentience in October, and since then I have seen a huge increase in my strength and fitness and my body has changed in ways that I never thought possible for me. Moving forward to Oxfam Trailwalker 100km 2018 and I was so excited to see how much ‘easier’ it was going to be, 20kg lighter and the fittest I’ve probably ever been.
Before we started the walk our team joked that we were going to do it in 24 hrs, and at the start line revised it to 22 hours! I was never convinced we would make it.
But proud to say that we finished the course in 22hrs 37 minutes, we went into the last 15km around 2 hours earlier than last year (and we started 3 hours later!!!). Super impressed with my team mates, it’s because of them and the hard work I put in at Sentience Personal Training that we made it so much quicker than I had done it in previous years. Recovery wise I was back working out at Sentience PT 48 hours later!!  With only a few modifications due to blisters behind my knee where I reacted to the tape.
I am feeling better than ever and now my next challenge is Kokoda in June, 2018.  I’m looking forward to a new challenge!"
Dannielle
All the best Dannielle, we look forward to hearing about your Kokoda sucess!  The Team at Sentience Personal Training!

How Bridgette Started Her Journey

Fat burning
Bridgette started with Sentience Personal Training wanting "help with everything!"  She wanted to improve her fitness, lose weight and needed advice around meal planning.

Eight weeks on and Bridgette has made so many changes!  Her changes have resulted in the following:
  • Overall weight loss of 4.1kg
  • Increase muscle mass of 1.4kg
  • Decrease body fat of 6kg
  • Increase of InBody Health Score of 9 pts!
  • Is feeling so much stronger in her body
  • Has loads more energy and feels better in her clothes
These are the changes that we put in place:

  • Added 2 x Semi Personal Training strength sessions + 1 walk to her current routine of two Pilates sessions
  • Added glass of apple cider vinegar and hot water on waking
  • Added breakfast
  • Replaced her snack while waiting for the train from takeaway to a healthy snack she brings with her
  • Removed all after dinner snacking and added a tea. Because she is eating more throughout the day, she doesn't feel hungry after dinner and doesn't need the snacks.
The most important thing is Bridgette doesn't feel these changes have been too hard. She still has a sweet snack a couple of times per week (just less) and is finding that she is managing her food a lot better in all situations. So that even when Bridgette is eating out, or having takeaway, it doesn't affect her weight loss efforts because she feels she cannot eat as much and is consciously avoiding overeating.

What's exciting for Bridgette, is that because of her increase in muscle mass, her metabolism is burning more calories.  Combining the increased metabolism, plus the extra calorie burn from her workouts and then her eating smaller meals, means Bridgette's results will now speed up!  We look forward to seeing the next progress update in 8 weeks!

Bridgette's changes came directly from our 12 Steps to Permanent Weight Loss, Fitness & Health.  We did a lifestyle check and made changes where she needed them.

She also learnt our simple to follow meal planning formula that teaches Members when, what and how much to eat without calorie counting.

WANT TO START YOUR OWN JOURNEY AND NEED HELP CREATING YOUR OWN PLAN?
A lot of the people we meet know what they need to do, just struggle to actually do it! Being held accountable is a big part of not only Bridgette's success, but yours too.  So stop feeling frustrated and let us help you out 🙂
