What Happens in a Typical Strength for Life Session?

Sessions start with a brisk walk around the beautiful grounds and deck of Rivers of Yarrambat with a bypass through the garden centre.

Mobility: group mobility exercises to further warm up and nurture the joints to assist with a greater range of healthy movement.

Members than take their own individualised program card and work their way through their program, under the supervision and guidance of a Personal Trainer.

They complete 8-10 exercises, covering each of the body parts.

After a good workout and some friendly social chit chat, the session concludes with core strengthening exercises and a stretch to cool down.

What is strength training?

Strength training (or resistance or weight training as it is sometimes called) involves use of weights to build muscle strength and endurance. To be effective, the program must be progressive – as you become stronger, we encourage you to increase the weights you are using.

Strength training is particularly important for older people. As we age, we lose muscle mass and bone density, resulting in the much of the loss of function we associate with getting older.

The Strength for Life program can assist you in:

  • Regaining you independence and ability to do day-to-day tasks: shopping, playing with grandchildren, gardening, getting out of chairs and climbing stairs
  • Improved posture, balance, coordination and flexibility
  • Feeling better about yourself – improved confidence & self esteem
  • Prevention/management of conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease

What our clients have to say about our Living Longer Living Stronger Program

Two years ago through illness and inactivity I found myself unable to ordinary tasks. I have been attending classes at Sentience PT since March of 2009. The difference in my strength and attitude has been amazing. I am in my 70’s, have a heart condition but with exercises and knowing what I can do and can’t do has been an inspiration for me. Also our class is great with the support and encouragement of the trainers. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to keep in maintaining good health in such a happy atmosphere.

Strength for Life has given me a new lease of life. I look forward to my sessions every Monday and Wednesday. I have made new friends who inspire me to do better and push myself. Thanks must go to all the trainers for their encouraging words.

Encouraging trainers help to keep you going. I have been made to feel comfortable in coming to an experience I had not been in before. Thank you.
