They say the first 20 minutes of your day sets the tone, so here's why I choose to do 100+ Push-ups every day...

On Saturday the 26th of August it will be exactly 7 months since I completely, yet cleanly ruptured my chest muscle from the bone whilst wakeboarding back in Jan, leading to a few colourful words followed by surgery 2x weeks later to put me back together. I'm now filled with screws and titanium wires which hold the tendon directly to the bone covered by a lovely purple scar running down my left shoulder/ bicep. I've been told this is a very rare injury, so I like to pride myself on the fact I give 100% into everything.

One way to describe the past 7 months would be calling it a journey, it almost felt like each day brought either excitement through progression or pure frustration.

The two things I learnt on this journey:

  • Slow down and listen to your body - It'll tell you when enough is enough!
  • Challenge yourself daily - Each day I have an app that lights up and takes me through 5x sets of push ups with the end of goal of completing 100 push ups without stopping...One day.

Before injury I reached 80 and I'm currently up to 35 in a row, so the mental challenge of starting all over again has been interesting, but again exciting as I reach new heights each week!

I'll let you know when I hit the 100!

In saying all that, what can YOU challenge yourself with each day?

Here's a list I find helpful:

  • Eat breakfast EVERYDAY
  • Don't snooze your alarm and get straight up as soon as you wake up
  • Prepare your lunch the night before

All of these things are certainly achievable, it's up to you to make these decisions. You might think you're quite happy with the way you do things, but I challenge you be uncomfortable and try new things, starting small as simple as eating breakfast can then lead to pushing yourself in other directions such as at the gym, work, relationships etc!
